This is a point that I discuss in the GGLA know your rights training (which is called “Law Isn’t Real”) - the ability to actually file or pursue charges is irrelevant, the goal is control of space and the reestablishment of “order” (capitalist, white supremacist status quo ante)

When I was arrested on campus back in the day, they put us through the system for a while, to cost us time and money, then dropped the charges.

It doesn’t matter that they can’t charge you or secure a conviction—that’s not the point! The point is that the charge, or its dismissal, or the lawsuit you win a year later, are all downstream from the reestablishment of control
