I think thus is only among the die hards. And even then I still had no problems cheering for Habs a few years ago. Flames Leafs and Canucks are the more difficult ones and depends on narratives. As 8th seed underdogs in 2004 even I was cheering for them despite being an Oilers fan.

Everyone’s different, but as you say - harder to cheer for some than others. I’d argue more fans would rather we get hit by a comet before Toronto wins, so don’t get the “brotherhood of Canadian fans” thing that blossoms in media narratives. I’d prefer EDM to FLA, but not because of that stuff.
