Historically Americans are lackadaisical¹ when it comes to education which the sociolinguistics are symptomatic thereof. Contemporarily, that has been weaponized to intentionally undereducate. Much easier for propaganda to be palatable as well as menticidation to be instilled. --- ¹ Justifiably.

i mean, i guess, i'm just saying i like how "aluminium" is spelled better primarily because every other metallic element in group 13 ends in -ium, as do the vast majority of metallic elements discovered post-antiquity. just like how halogens end in -ine and nobles in -on (excepting helium)
