This is apparently the world’s oldest surviving woven garment. It’s linen, more than 5,000 years old, found in a tomb at Tarkhan, south of Cairo in 1913 ~ but its extreme age was not realised till recent radiocarbon testing. Note the pleating!

I’m not an Egyptologist, or an expert on early clothing, but my guess is that the rolls of gathered fabric, especially if themselves undecorated, suggests this is a chemise worn, perhaps under an outer layer of clothing, for a little warmth in the cooler days of winter
