I recall being quite struck by your observation that America’s holy sites are roadside attractions. I was near Rte 11 in VA at the time – close to Foamhenge, natural bridge, and two hours from Blacksburg. Real pilgrimage location. Wonderful book. Made to visit House on the Rock when I moved to MN.
