You're thinking that withholding your vote works the same way as boycotting a product.It doesn't. Someone is going to win the election whether you vote or not and the outcome is going to impact your life. "I want no say in how my life is affected" is just dumb.
Our electoral system is engineered such that there will always be two successful parties.
The one that gets to make policy is the one with the most votes. If, in the general election, you don't vote for the candidate closest to your ideas THAT CAN WIN, then you don't get to make policy.
