Actually, I LOATHE the order of operations; nobody has ever been able to explain the benefits of PEMDAS to me. Left-to-right is intuitive cuz it's how we read, and if we need something calculated first, that's why the Gud Lawd invented parentheses.

It's an attempt to encode the graphical conventions developed over centuries of people putting math on paper in a way that elementary school teachers can teach to elementary students. Such conventions make math communication more reliable, like agreeing what '+' and '=' mean.
