There’s a concept in self-help world called lizard brain ie the most primitive, survival-driven part of your brain—doesn’t see nuance , is only concerned with protecting you ruthlessly and destructively. I’ve been searching for another term (monkey brain being problematic too). Bigotry so encoded

In some child-rearing philosophies, it’s upstairs brain (thinking, disciplining, balancing—but weakened by lack of sleep or food, emotional distress, trauma) and the downstairs brain (reactive, emotional, takes over during meltdowns)
