Why can't you Americans just do the civilised thing, and have the opinions be read out by the justices in the courtroom, instead of handing them out on paper. So undignified!

Because that would remove a layer of protection between the Justices and the public. Just ask the Justices. Why would they ever want to lay eyes on the unwashed masses?
