My last golden had a multitude of allergies. Any venison I found was so expensive until… I found the rural butcher who helped local hunters process their deer. What a find! She would trim the steaks she cut for the hunters, and put the trimmings in a grinder to sell for sausage meat. $2 per pound.

(Con’d) I’d buy 50 lbs and keep it in our basement freezer for the year. Another source: in early fall, ask hunters and families if they have any venison they’re getting rid of, before the new hunting season.
