Banks and the PE firms that borrow from them aren't the only parties affected by these practices. If you have a better way to internalize the negative externalities of the PE industry feel free to share.

I would argue that capital structure is a symptom, rather than the cause of what is going wrong here, and you'd still have most of the issues even without the excessive debt loads PE-backed businesses are often saddled with.
