This explains why McConnell was still majority leader until January 20, 2021.
The Senate was 50-50 and Kamala Harris wasn’t sworn in until January 20, making the 51st vote for the Democrats.

Patty Murray is the current president pro tem and she would preside over the swearing-in.
If the GOP got a sizeable Senate majority, they might be able to choose a new president pro tem who wouldn’t perform the traditional duties.
To me, Biden’s loss is more risky.
