Effective visualizations tell stories, much like text. More beautiful analogous to well/elegantly written? The thing with figures is that they are often interpreted in isolation. Big responsibility, but since they are made by a person they will, like text, carry the same biases imo!

Absolutely! When @mattpfox.bsky.social was talking about this, the causation was that some really beautiful figures could be using really bad data, but the data badness may not be obvious to the audience
