Happy Juneteenth. Here’s a very cool and beautiful statue from down the road in Galveston, of the Emancipation Proclamation being read. It sits outside the historic Ashton Villa, one of the large 19th century homes left on the island. 1/x

Ashton Villa is undeniably gorgeous, a beautifully constructed home built in 1859, one of the first brick structures in Texas.
It was also built with slave labor, and the historical society acknowledges this. 2/x
