Let's talk about the Library of Babel & what it says about PROTEIN EVOLUTION. (long 🧪 thread) Jorge Luis Borges, Argentinian author & librarian, wrote a story about an infinite library, filled with every possible combination of 25 basic characters (letters, space, comma, period) of 410 pages.

Because almost all of the books contain only meaningless gibberish, they're all essentially useless. But they also contain every book ever written (within 410 pages) & every variation on every book ever written. Hamlet, but where all the characters are named Norm, for example.

Borges is amazing... He also wrote another story in the same book Fictions, named The Garden of Forking Paths (1941) that is a perfect illustration of the multiverse hypothesis in quantum theory.
