Starmer's has ask the King for "permission" to form a government. I don't see how that's better than going through the Electoral College vote- in both cases it's a formality until the day it isn't. And it is absolutely possible to get a Parliamentary majority without winning thr popular vote.

a) Not really, sorry. It's a formality in the same way the King handing out knighthoods in his name is a formality. Legally, he has zero say, and the gov decides. The last King who tried to interfere in democracy got his head chopped off. b) Yup. The first past the post system truly sucks.
