I haven't really thought about why I viewed them as bougie but I think it comes down to two things. 1. There is privilege in only having to travel the distances that ebikes can cover 2. Being able to afford one, the car that my fiance and I bought is cheaper than ebike.

i'm gonna keep it real with you ain't no way in the world you're getting a drivable car under $1000 like i just did with this ebike lol. 30-50 miles of range for my low-end bike is more than necessary for most situations. the average US daily round trip commute is 42 miles anyways!

1. This is false and based entirely on people not accounting for transportation costs. And poor people live without cars and travel great distances on shitty transit systems not because they are privileged but cause CARS ARE EXPENSIVE and are the real privilege 2. This is demonstrably bullshit
