Queers have always gravitated to creative fields precisely because cishet culture do not make room for us. So we literally have to create those spaces. We have had to create our own language, vocabulary, symbolism. Art is queer. Music is queer. Fashion is queer. Literature is queer. It is OURS.

Trust me, people saying the bigots ought to care about gays dying of AIDS because "who's going to plan your wedding???" didn't make much a difference. Reducing our value to what we can produce for our oppressors' pleasure and comfort will never convince them of our humanity.
