This just made me wonder how your parties got their misaligned colours. Was it this? Or did this follow established convention?

The blue=dem/red=rep color-coding only was calcified in 2000. Into the 80s, if I recall correctly, different networks used whatever colors they chose. In the 90s (or perhaps the 80s, I don’t remember), they started following a pattern of alternating which color represented the incumbent party.
