But the university is a values based institution. And in many others areas it proclaims those values strongly, and even in research it limits many avenues of pure intellectual discovery due to ethical and moral concerns (and rightly so).

But apparently sustainability (of society, climate, habitability etc.) is not a strong enough value that it would trump over the provision of unrestricted accounts for faculty (by which they mean free of the restrictions applied to federal funding).
