Imagine being handed basically unlimited power and just going "Well this is bad. Nobody should have all this power. I wouldn't ever consider abusing it. Someone should really do something about that." And then shrugging and waiting to lose that power to someone who has said he absolutely will.

Or worse going "Well I'm going to leave this power right here. And if you don't stop bad people from taking it FOREVER. That's your fault. So you better vote for me keep it. I'll literally do nothing to curtail this power and it's your fault if I lose it."
