I can see why the costumes, sets, and scale of the film would have amazed audiences at the time.

This movie is weird because in some areas it's hyper-faithful to the original novel, but in others it's completely different. It ends up feeling like two different stories competing with each-other.

I’m due a rewatch, definitely one of the first silents I ever saw. Also…it’s amazing that we can can watch performances of people from a hundred years ago 🤯
