Rewatched (remembered?) The Alamo (1960) this morning… haven’t seen this one for at least 20 years, mainly because it’s not very good! Duke’s first directing job, and he’s pretty darn good at framing and composition (he learned from the best), but this feels nothing like a Ford movie.

Too slow! And the character development just isn’t here… Laurence Harvey as Colonel Travis is really the only interesting character. Widmark (as Jim Bowie) is trying his damndest, but he’s not given much to do. This movie just kind of rambles along until the big battle. Which is alright, I guess.
