There is a pretty big distinction, the US has never not had far right candidates on our ballots, where Ireland seems to have kept some of that particular extremism out (note I'm not an expert on either).

Yeah, definitely. I mean, in the US there's a big difference between, say, McCain and Trump, but it's all extremely rightwing.
