I still maintain that Garland is the nominee, as nominations expire at the end of term for the office nominated to, not of the President or Senate term. We have had two SCOTUS justices which had their nominations go into a second term for both as precedent.

The dems would have had to win the senate as well for that to happen in this alternate scenario, unless McConnell had a massive change of heart under her administration and decided to move forward on the nominations. I remember him saying he would hold the seats hostage in perpetuity

do you think they'd have actually held hearings and approved her nominations? IIRC at least one sitting senator (Graham) was on record as saying they would not.
