If you're looking for people who actively engage with the community, check the Replies tab on their profile.
Another tip: find quiet or inactive posters via mary-ext.codeberg.page/bluesky-quie.... I'm gradually unfollowing those who haven't posted/replied in months.
*Note that the search ALSO LOOKS AT ALT TEXT on images. Just one more reason to always try to add alt text. Remind yourself here: bsky.app/settings/acc...
On the Other Place, I angsted over whether or not to mute/block accts. On Bluesky, I don't hesitate.
PLUS this platform has SO many more options on how to curate our experience here. I strongly encourage you to check out Moderation options, if you haven't already: bsky.app/moderation
If anyone is wondering how I include embedded links like this and this, it's with deck.blue, a 3rd party Tweetdeck clone for Bluesky (desktop) with lots more useful features!
To those using the term "skeet" and "skeeting" as a nickname for post/posting on Bluesky: Be aware this is a derogatory term for some (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeet_(...) & has even less family-friendly meanings in slang; feel free to look it up.
Hashtags now work in Bluesky (including in your profile bio). You can search platform-wide or just within a user's feed.
If you're thoughtful about what hashtags you use, latter can be SUPER handy in helping followers find categorized posts (or art!) I wrote more about hashtags here.
When posting images, add ALT text. Not only does this help visually impaired readers who use screen readers but it helps w/discoverability (custom feeds, search)
To remind myself, I turn on "require ALT text": bsky.app/settings/acc... This is also where you can disable GIF autoplay.
If your Home feed seems too quiet or too full of Replies, you can tweak in Following Feed Prefs.
An aside: I rarely use my Home feed; I browse Custom Feeds instead (I wrote more about custom feeds with examples here). Anyone can make feeds but I recommend learning the basics first.
Bluesky gives us MANY options to adjust our platform experience, curate what we see. Strongly recommend taking the time to explore Settings, starting with Moderation. Not only can you mute/block accts but you can mute words & tags, only allow DMs from people you follow (or not at all). #BlueSkyTips
