The new gambling minister having a close (professional) relationship with the head of the gambling lobby, and having taken hospitality from said gambling lobby, really is one of those things just waiting to cause a scandal huh

Andersons delivery of "not everything is about you mulder. This is my life" lives rent free in my head followed by the rly rly rly loud silence as mulder breaks mid through "yes, but"

She also always plays scully as someone who has this rly important internal sense of justice that comes out as both a real sensitivity and as a steely resolve. And it makes sense that mulders quest for the truth would attract her! They are pure hearted idealists! ♥️

Yes he also spends so long in the movie struggling with not knowing and not being known that I don't think he can bring himself to ask in the same he cannot bring himself to stop the murder when it happens. He is not Jimmy Stewart in rear window he's trapped by himself and the system he built

You can rly see how the role would end up as a silence of the lambs at home if gillian Anderson hadn't absolutely nailed it as well...she's so good...I love scully she's my little girl

It's so funny how the show insists for so long that mulder is the protagonist and driving force of the show and meanwhile every scene with scully is not only the best part of the show is she is easily the best part of 90% of shows

I left the conversation wanting to grab people on the street and go did you know they used make movies? Real films, moving pictures? Good Lord.

Read this about the conversation...I think I mostly agree though with the benefit of decades away I simply don't see the argument about the ending. Emotionally if Harry had asked hey what's up with this mystery at the end it would have been emotionally worse. Imo

I think part of it though is that the moments when there is a change of leader need you to at least PRETEND there's a vision to give people which is harder to sell if the acc pitch is I'd simply not be shit

I mean starmers take for why they lost 2019 was "we fucked up a bit on that manifesto and the other guy didn't look like this" so I'm not sure if it's not an argument that doesn't get made?

Obscene and even more so that this is only coming to light because they turned out to be foreign. Too many times I had to tell friends to establish that you're not from Brazil quickly so cops wouldn't feel entitled to physically hurt them. Rotten institution.

When the exit poll for 2019 came out I was pretty sure that was a defeat you couldn't recover from in one term. Governments have autonomy! Including autonomy to fuck up

A lot of current analysis of the future elections forgets that governments have autonomy and must also react to unexpected events

Yeah like ironically I think the tories failed to understand too that Rwanda was easy for Labour to oppose because they didn't need to make a moral case against it: they could just point out it was fucking stupid

Saw somebody complain that starmer called rwanda an expensive gimmick when he cancelled it instead of opposing it on the moral case....there's literally no reason why burn yourself at both ends I fully expect him to be bad in govt but you're gonna make yourself crazy

The post election discourse that treats Muslim voters voting on issues they care about as an "issue" is disgusting bigotry. (Compare and contrast to the "how can Labour win back the Red Wall?" discourse that happened).

i actually really really liked it as a depiction of what abuse does to you and its very tasteful in its uses of the shining (basically: its not trying to be the shining as much as its trying to say "ok, then what") but it is goofy in so many parts
