I wonder how much of the GOP freakout at AOC winning a few years ago was plain partisan differences or a fear that finally a new generation who gets how to play politics and not give the game to the GOP was entering the Dem Party.

Amazing to see how international football has the technology to immediately know if a ball crossed a line, when the ball was touched, etc but US football still uses chains to measure if a ball has gone 10 yards and video review if the ball crossed into the endzone.

I think this is the case. People see a single actor, but don't understand the organizational complexity behind it. This probably also produces the green lantern theory of the executive, because its difficult for people grasp how complex the US government is in its entirety.

I hate to be the one that has to say this, but people don't get to decide what a democracy is. Only Robert Dahl and Adam Przeworski get to. Sorry, but thems the rules.

There are many reasons for the party's paralysis right now. 1) Biden may not be sure if he wants to drop out 2) Internal disagreement on if Biden should drop out 3) Absence of clear understanding of how the decision will be received 4) Absence of rules on how to resolve Biden dropping out

Its growing because we are considering decisions that a party *could* make but in which there are no rules to formally guide it. The party will continue following its rules, but if it does make a change, we really can't have a good idea of what it will do.

The Democratic Party can choose to do whatever it wants with its party nomination rules and that doesn't change whether we're a democracy. The Democratic Party, however, cannot choose whether voters or party activists perceive the party's decision to be democratic/legitimate.

I'm 100% on board for a critical juncture w/re to our parties as long as it does not lead to a Hungary like outcome.

If the fact that if a party does not allow voters to have a say in its nomination processes does not qualify as being undemocratic blows your mind, wait till you learn about undemocratic democratic transitions.

There are a lot of people online making the case that voters must-have a say in party nomination processes for a system to qualify as a democratic. They are incorrect. That is the scope of my post.

Dear people in my mentions. Parties around the world do not use primaries to select their candidates. There is nothing undemocratic about a party doing it. Yours truly, A comparative political parties scholar.

If Joe Biden can walk from the White House to Capitol Hill, he stays. If not, you get Kamala, Whitmer, and Shapiro on a stage and whoever gives the most moving speech takes the nom.

I don't have a strong preference on Biden because of how much uncertainty there is, but seeing stuff like this cross my path is going to kill me. I'm begging people to learn how parties work. You can't Aaron Sorkin your way out of this.
