They believe this b/c, they're not wrong. They'll still have champagne and caviar gatherings with power. Even as Germany was being bombed their industrialists still enjoyed being a protected class. Same would be true of Trump fascist government. They literally could give a shit about our fates.

But, this also gives you tools. Cancel subs, call on people to cancel, and call on people to drop news from their cable packages. Start calling en masse, in a way that hits their bottom line, and they'll panic. Look, just a 5% drop in profit in a quarter will cause extreme panic. Now is the time.

News is fundamentally an entertainment industry now, and it's masters are quarterly capitalists who are MBAs and only care about quarterly profits. If it means the populace no longer live in a democracy that's sad, but they can still pursue rewriting press releases sent to them as a living.

This is the fundamental problem. The rich, white, old men in charge of all the media outlets honestly, deeply believe that there is no difference between the two candidates. And fundamentally, that is so at odds with reality that it is destroying the ability of news to at all educate or inform.

A whole class had acted up so much and been sent to the principal's office and I hadn't even noticed. Lost in a good book.

Turns out, everyone had been sent down to the principal's office for acting up except me? I was alone with a teacher sitting there doing grading. We locked eyes. No idea how to play it, sat there like a terrified bunny in a backyard. "Don't let me keep you from your book." So I kept reading.

Okay, okay. True story: I'd read books on my lap all the way even until college. In High School a class was getting really rambunctious, so I started reading. Looked up a while later b/c it suddenly dawned on me it was dead quiet. Looked up. It was just me and the teacher. Did I miss the bell? No.

It really does a number on us. I’m grateful my ADD CAME WITH Oppositional Defiance. Though I’m suspecting OF is a mental defense against being told you’re not right with the world for so long you begin to assume the world is really wrong and assuming opposition usually works as a short hand

Getting on guanfacine has helped cut some of the brain fog, so I'm trying to think my way out of the problem now that I'm on summer break

The plan is to pull back to writing 60-70k novels until Long Covid is figured out, so that's 4-5 short stories and one short, short novel if I can figure out the 250/day technique

That worked for me, a whole career even! But now, if I want the career I had, I have to learn to play a different game. And that's what this summer is all about. Build my external brain so I can write non-linearly, keep my thoughts around, and write a little every day. 365 X 250/day = 90,000 words

My big goal this summer is to learn a new trick: small words, in a sustainable practice, every day. I don't believe you have to write every day, in the past I only did that on a deadline. Otherwise, some days nothing, some days 4,000 words.

Last year, the utter fury and rage at just being... too exhausted to do the thing I love more than most things in life... that wasn't fun. But, focusing on daily practice. I can no longer sprint like I used to, so it's focusing on the long game now. Daily practice.

I'm in the second half of a story I owe that's... I can't even describe how overdue. But now that I've gotten some summer rest, I am slowly putting down words. 50-100/day last month, now hitting 200. I'm trying not to view it like a battle with Long Covid, that's negative language. But... yeah.

The most effective I ever was at a day job was when I had a team of student supervisors I had working with me that I plugged into my weak areas (organization, filing, fiddly stuff I couldn't/can't do) and I focused on strengths.

OMG, THIS. So, I'm in a job where I worked in the same place in the late 90s/early 00s? All that stuff is just gone. No assistants for the profs, no admin layers, no assistants anywhere except the president because all of that is stripped away.

Yeah, and also, in the old days, there were way more physical labor jobs, and even in office jobs, it wasn't all queued emails and stuff that has to be done in strict sequence, you could call or walk over.

It's only when I hit 30, and went to the hospital due to my heart defect, that I was banned from any stimulants, and suddenly ADHD became A Big Deal for me b/c it turns out, accidentally, I had been using caffeine as a focusing tool since I was... err... 11?

It was me telling my parents about how exciting finding out about being ADHD was and how much I'd learned, and how much I'd learned to cope through external hacks, that made them realize it was real. I also self medicated like crazy with caffeine, so I was outwardly functional for a long time.

I think it was a poorly researched field prior to Long Covid. My mother is a CFS sufferer, likely some tropical viral infection, and I know from talking to her over the years it's been invisible to the medical field and mostly dismissed as user-exaggeration or depression.

There's more research and testing going on for CFS now that, suddenly, a shit ton of people who were previously healthy in a huge event suddenly all became CFS sufferers and believe it's real, so I suspect the speed of new info/new treatments will be accelerated for some time

... 2 years in, it's becoming noticeable that I'm not able to create at the old speed, so I have to come to grips with it. I know talking about it openly will lose me oppurtunities again, but, fuck, we're all in it together.

I'm so late on any writing I've promised to people because I no longer can estimate how long anything will take that requires effort. Given that the last time I was open about having a genetic heart defect I lost gigs/sales/offers, I really didn't want to talk about having long covid openly, but...

My parents were full "ADHD isn't real" and "kids are just over-medicated" and all that. While at the same time *constantly* complaining about my behavior.

"If you *care* you'd remember" is a phrase I hate so much b/c I heard all my life.
Then I got a heart defect. I care about keeping my heart beating more than just about anything.
I still can't remember to take medicine and use two sets of alerts, an app, and this:
