"trigger finger" is such a dumb name for a painful stress injury its not named after the common causes which are repetitive use and gripping its named after its progression where the finger loses fine motor control and snaps between positions like a trigger...

my understanding is its safe bc the bait stations are designed to physically exclude other creatures and the hormones are harmless to predators/insufficient to effect reproductive health as well as exclusive to rodents

I'm not a fan of poison but I don't know Ukrainian to disagree with her encouraging stray cats would be devastating to the local wildlife more than occasional brown rats "outdoor" cats are bad enough mechanical removal and pop control w birth control bait centers works best in urban environments

there are like 5 other compost piles in the community garden and rats are a seasonal issue in the area so it probably won't solve the problem completely, but I've done my part and now I have cucumbers

so i stayed late pulling it all out and throwing it in the organics bin as i was cleaning up her husband approached me with 3 cucumbers and as i fumbled to accept them he said "i have it" and put them directly into my crossbody bag on my back followed by two hearty slaps saying "good"

watering my dahlias tonight i was approached by neighbor lot grandma who showed me her bag of rat bait/poison and pointed around her garden where its placed and then at a hole that had been dug in my compost pile "they dig my potatoes" she said gesturing that the compost pile was a problem

it too hot (102F) honestly we've been lucky this year we didn't have earlier heat bubbles, but still it is just not right for the region just got in from having to dunk 4/7 chickens in a bucket of cold water to cool them off its just been heat mitigation and hydration all day

booted up my elden ring save to see where im at in relation to dlc access and i was 1/4 in to a ng+3 run with a strength/faith build dragon cultist first npc i run into is a ghost that says "ahhh the puppets.... the puppets are attacking" incredible

I don't see how having Biden step aside does anything other than dividing donations among a handful of candidates and resulting in votes being siphoned to 3rd party candidates like the gop hoped would happen with RFK. Rebuild a voter base in 4 months around a candidate with currently no campaign?

im trying to develop my own cultivars so ones I like I will be propagating via cuttings, ones that have interesting traits but maybe not 100% there I will gather seeds from, ones that are just good dahlias but not my style I'll maybe idk... sell at the end of the season? or just give away to friends

Anything over 94F up here starts scorching the native evergreens which is where we are at right now, and then tomorrow 98 Sun 99, Mon 100, Tuesday 102.... so the heat trouble we are in is here already. I don't think Beryl enters the equation for Pacific Northwest folks?

heatwave prep for the chickens was turning on a little garden mister and installing some low voltage usb circulation fans to keep air moving through the "duggout" which is where the chickens hang out when its hot anyway

anyway I think we (the US) should use its "soft power" more b/c improving the reqs for labor beyond US borders 1. Makes outsourcing jobs less appealing 2. Reduces the necessity to move to the US to enjoy US QoL 3. US companies exploiting local populations creates the conditions folks are fleeing

I had a therapist (briefly) that I was complaining about competing in the craft market with child slaves and she thought the wage folks make in other countries was still enough to live on and she got mad at me after I had her look up child labor burma/myanmar (where a lot of wood utensils come from)

I leveled out the row ditches a bit now that transplanted dahlias have settled. I planned to do cover crop in between the rows but none are heat tolerant so I'm going to start a batch of dahlia seedlings to plant in the newly leveled mid rows when they have some protection via established plants
