The proposal on November 17, 2023 by ambassadors of EU governments, also says that sales of tankers to a third country should include contractual clauses that ships cannot be re-sold to Russia or used to carry Russian crude oil or petroleum products that avoid western price caps - crude oil @ $60.

This is a measure that is 18 months too late, and its effect will be limited as most of the aged fleet traded in these ship sales have already been completed. In March 2022 - the EU fleet, and EU insured fleet - made up over 90% of all oil tankers in service.

Fast forward to November 17, 2023 - The European Commission is proposing to #ban the sale of #tankers for #CrudeOil and #petroleum products to Russia to prevent Moscow bypassing western sanctions on Russian oil with a shadow fleet of #ships, a proposal by the Commission showed.

Remember the European Union dropped plans to Stop Tankers Moving Russian Oil Anywhere - in MAY 2022. Since then the sale of oil tankers - many of them Greek shippers, to hidden shell companies masquerading as legitimate business, but in business to ship oil for Russia to circumvent the EU sanctions.
