Does Columbus still have limits on how many unrelated people can live in the same housing unit? (Random thought brought on by the zoning code update.)

Article in today's Dispatch saying that Columbus paid an external PR firm for Zone In to:

- write communications and outreach plans
- draft a letter to the editor that wasn't submitted
- workshop a quote with an advocate
- ghostwrite an op-ed signed by the mayor

Shower thought: This phenomenon is because of a language barrier. Instead of drawing the line at geographic regions or societal classes, this language barrier is between cultural levels of indirectness.

People like Musk try to pitch Mars as a backup planet, presumably because they think it’ll get more investment, but it’s always been a ridiculous notion. Humans will go to Mars for the same reasons they go to Antarctica, and in the same spirit. Exploration, science, not a “better life”.

Haven't found a specific term for the overall phenomenon, though. "Lack of reading comprehension" is too general.

Based on www.forbes.com/advisor/cred... the selling point is it's available to people who get rejected from PreCheck for whatever reason, it works at some non-airport venues, and enrollment is faster.

If you're signing up at any time other than day-of at an airport, it sounds like NEXUS is best.

I've seen that at the B gates, but it's never been mutiny-bad. Clear folks take forever to clear the Clear machines, so in a race between a PreCheck and a Clear person, the Clear person always comes in second.

From what I've seen on Tumblr, that pattern of misinterpretation might come from unfamiliarity with subtle/indirect criticism, or ignorance of context. They don't recognize the criticism for what it is — and then apply black-and-white thinking where anything that isn't condemnation is complicity.

Yes, that spot could be better. They could easily fit 4 bikes there.

But: The schoolyard/toast rack you've drawn doesn't let you lock the frame, and it positions bikes too close to each other.

I checked out the Fox In The Snow car crash scene last night on my way home from @transitcolumbus.bsky.social — here we see the empty lot the car drove through, and a 4" fence post it knocked over. Great for marking lot lines; not for stopping cars.

Nighttime view of an empty lot on the west side of North 4th Street. Visible in the foreground is a shattered wooden post lying down, and in one corner of the view, an upright wooden post. There are no tire tracks in the empty grassy lot.

Councilmember Rob Dorans has announced (on X) that Columbus' zoning code update will be presented tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. on City Council's YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOwP...

Screenshot of thread from Rob Dorans, posted 6:21 p.m. on April 3:

For the first time in more than 70 years, Columbus is modernizing our zoning code. Tomorrow, we will introduce the code and map proposal to the public that will focus on Columbus’s main corridors.
These changes will be introduced officially at Council on Monday, April 8th, but we won’t be voting on a final version until later this summer after an extensive public review process.
Please join us at the Zone In Gallery (141 N Front St. Garage) or watch online on Columbus Council's Youtube and Facebook at 10:30 AM, Thursday April 4th.

Trails exist on portions of Olentangy River Road — but they funnel back onto the Olentangy Trail. To get around the flooded areas, you're going to have to ride in traffic on high-traffic higher-speed roads.

The Olentangy Trail is the major north-south bike commute route, but it floods. This shows why Columbus needs alternative paths on Olentangy River Road and High Street.
