In my case, I just know I wouldn't be a good parent. I don't have the patience for it. I would have a hard time faking enthusiasm into my hypothetical kid's activities and interests and that would NOT be fair to a growing child. They need someone who'd be there 100% and I can't do that.

I'm not anti natalist I just think it's extremely hypocritical for people who want to have kids to tell people who don't that they're selfish when having kids is inherently a selfish reason. It's not a BAD kind of selfish but it's still a decision mostly centered around that person's personal wants

To expand on this, The issue with being best friends with your child is that friends will generally try to tell you what you want to hear. But being a parent VERY OFTEN involves telling your child what they don't want to hear BUT NEED TO HEAR. And playing best buddies gets in the way of this.

I can actually identify with this. I was so tired that one time at my aunt's place that I tried biting into decorative fruit that was on the table. It actually took me two tries of biting into that fake pear to realize it was plastic.
