Ooh, and chives have the secondary role of being delicious and marigolds are pretty!. And if you mix marigold flowers into your chicken feed, their egg yolks will be more yellow!

I love it when I get image requests from people outside the art world or academia. This week has been very diverse, with requests from an entomologist, a French caviar wholesaler, and a Scandinavian pediatric organization, among others.

I'm so ambivalent about him! Like, I think some of his work, especially the earlier portraits, is great, but have a knee-jerk revulsion to... most of it, honestly. And his whole "Old Masters cheated by using optical devices" thing is one of the most aggravating books I've ever read.

The article doesn't talk about licensing fees at all, but there's a reason you've never heard of a Picasso or Matisse or MC Escher "immersive experience" and that reason is $$$$$$$. I'm assuming all the Kahlo ones lost money.

Fascinating look at the inevitable collapse of the "immersive art experience" fad, because after Monet, Van Gogh, Klimt, and Kahlo have already been done, and most copyrighted artists are too expensive, what's left? www.artnews.com/art-news/new...

Referring to Helen Frankenthaler as "the Georgia O'Keeffe of abstract art" even though her work is completely different reeks of "the only other female artist we can think of". www.stamfordadvocate.com/local/articl...

I was curious about the etymology of the word "jaunty" and was surprised to see that it comes from the same French root word as "gentle" and "genteel" but evolved into the quite different meaning of "easy and sprightly in manner".
