Maybe it's time to seriously consider PR. My favourite version is New Zealand's Mixed-Member Proportional. Every voter has two cast 2 votes : - 1 for a local candidate (highest votes gets elected) - 1 for a nation-wide party (seats proportional to the votes)

If you want to have an impression of what secession would look like, imagine post-Brexit Britain. Importing & exporting come with an additional cost & shitoads of red tape. There's no longer Freedom of Movement. People can't settle in the other area, or take residence for long periods (students...)

What's your job, I meant. Another West-Vlaams trait is the fact that h is not pronounced, as in Cockney English, e.g. een huis (house), hand, etc... while g is pronounced like an h, e.g. gij, groot...

In that case I had an advantage on you. I spoke West-Vlaams as a kid and the subject of my final dissertation (end of Master's) was a study of the pronunciation of the West-Vlaams dialect of a town in West-Vlaanderen. When two linguists chat, it's linguistic nerd paradise. 😉

Easy peasy, it's pronounced ˈlɪʔl̩ In West-Vlaams, you've got a glottal stop with p, t, k, nk when they're followed by a vowel, e.g. stoppen, zetten, trekken, drinken... even sometimes with d. Mind you, Flemings who are not from West-Vlaanderen find that dialect "tricky". 😉

I find the accent of Estuary English amusing, especially their glottal stop (e.g. 'not on' [ˌnɒʔ 'ɒn], 'bottle' ['bɒʔo]) which is similar to the one you can observe in the dialects of West-Vlaanderen (the coastal province of Belgium).
