(this was just me making a joke, but I just read in the PHB appendix that it's very common for people to pray to whatever god is relevant to their needs at the time, even if that means praying to multiple gods in the same day!)

Deleted my reply since like... half of the responses seemed to be misinterpreting it. But. Suffice it to say that I find this a very interesting conversation to have when NOT broadcasting to the public internet, lol

You should read the Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud, I think you'd find it really interesting.

...I mean, sure, if you interpret the phrase "believing in" in a much less literal way.
I think my meaning was pretty clear though.

Me? I LIKE gods in D&D, I think it's fascinating. I'm not trying to get rid of them, personally.

If ANY part of my reply made you think that I would support forcing people with religious trauma to roleplay devout characters in D&D, then I apologize. Obviously that is not my stance lol

I mean, usually summoning includes an element of binding/control. I don't think most creatures who are summoned follow orders out of generosity 😂

Whenever I mention BG3 in my content, people say stuff like "I guess you HAVE to, since it's so popular right now..." but in reality, BG3 is no longer a hot search term, but I still have hours-long conversations about it with my friends every single week 😅
It's not trendy, I'm just obsessed

In the world of D&D, I feel like polytheism is kind of like polyamory... a lot of gods aren't open to it and might get angry/jealous if it's suggested 😅

Each of these is just another way to frame/approach the same stuff I want to talk about. I personally feel like BG3 did a great job making gods feel very present in and connected to the game, which is why I like it as a lead-in to this conversation.

Ahhh, so you just want players to be able to choose a deity for any character as part of like... mechanical character creation. I see your point!

oh, I'm SO curious why you think BG3 misses the boat on that when Gale the wizard was a god's lover 😅 idk if you can get more devout than that...

(Sorry, to be clear, I am working on ONE video about gods, and am trying to figure out the most compelling way to explore that topic! This is not like... 5 separate videos.)

I mean, I'm working on one video, which is about gods... but I am trying to decide how to frame it 😜 Obviously I would not make 5 videos on such similar subjects.

Humans love to see narratives in things — it's one of our most charming traits, I think. It's tempting to shape your year into an arc, whether that's a positive or negative one. But if that arc isn't useful, you can let it go. Years are arbitrary divisions. You have more time 💙

Personally, I accomplished some big things this year that I'm proud of, and also had some disappointments and feel like I slipped backwards in some ways.
A year is a long time! It doesn't have to be all black or white. As my therapist says, it's okay to vibe in the grey.

Proud of everybody sharing their accomplishments from 2023! Also sending love to everybody whose big accomplishment this year was surviving.
Seeing a lot of posts about both these feelings, and I love seeing that kinda nuance from the internet.

I was excited to watch it but the FIRST scene is yet another "corsets are LITERALLY TORTURE" scene, even worse than the stupid one in Bridgerton, and I did NOT have the patience for it that day 🥲 turned it off within like 3 minutes. I gotta try again and just grit my teeth haha

I have SO many moments when I think "I gotta remember to... [insert social task]" and I finally hit a point where I was like Ginny, you have ADHD. you are not gonna remember. it's like I needed to admit it was hard for me in order to let myself use tools for it.

sorry that you ended up getting so many comments on the voice thing 😂 I COMPLETELY agree with the guiding principle though. I often give this advice, especially to men who claim that they don't know how to compliment a woman in a way that won't "offend her" — just compliment something she chose!

I mostly agree, but as a singer I love getting compliments on my voice because I’ve trained it and worked hard on it — it’s absolutely something I chose!

- if someone doesn't tell you what they want/how they feel, you don't have to guess. you don't have to solve an interpersonal problem that has not been communicated to you.

I will say that the first 20 minutes or so, I was truly not sure what I thought! I didn't know if I could trust this director, and he was exploring some tricky themes. But by the time we were about 60% of the way through, I leaned over to my husband and whispered "I think I LOVE this movie" 😂

Whenever I’m feeling particularly anxious, I have nightmares where I have to care for a lot of small/helpless animals and I’m doing a bad job of it. Last night it was kittens that were falling into water and drowning if I didn’t pull them out.
Is this… just a me-thing? 😅

how a movie can thoughtfully explore and criticize the infantilization of women, the sexualization of girls, AND the policing of female sexuality in the same story is honestly astounding to me. now I definitely need to read the book.

I didn't see your response as malicious by any means, but one incredibly common way to dismiss or minimize mental illness and/or developmental disorders is to claim that "everyone experiences this" — for example, I grew up being told that EVERYONE forgets stuff, and I could fix it if I tried harder.
