I very much agree with you, it was an act of political expedience and cowardice of the Dems to do _nothing_ about these criminals only to scream at the electorate about them for the last 4 years

Exactly. So timid and gutless and now look where that has got us. Also probably Lincoln was sick and tired of the civil war by the time it ended but he should have seen what was coming in the generations ahead. And then they killed him.
