Probabilistic estimation, the most reassuring two words in driving automation technology. It thinks truck nuts are traffic cones, you can extrapolate from there (this is just the funniest example, not necessarily the best)

Image recognition and computer processing, in theory. Dunno if they can use parallax from multiple cameras. It’s be a nifty tech if it, you know, worked.

It doesn't even have to be good, it's been tricked by stop signs on billboards well off the road. (The guy's narration in the video is annoying because he's guzzled the koolaid)
