The thing is, the public does not want Schedule F. Almost 9 in 10 Democrats *and* Republicans support a nonpartisan civil service. They trust civil servants much more than they trust politicians. And they are right, because the civil servants provide more stability, responsiveness and competence.
Also, lots of challenges in government work come from leadership folks who are motivated more by politics than competence. At least right now we have enough competent examples to embarrass the political ones with.
Well, the question is "... is important for democracy", not "do you want". I can imagine people for wich the answers would be very different if the latter question would be asked.
*duck*
these polls were taken before republican voters were told how they think on the subject. I'm kidding, a little - but honestly I've been shocked to watch my older brothers rapidly pivot on an issue as it enters the R talking points.
Imagine a US startup that has invented a new treatment that prevents most types of dementia. The startup files a patent application to protect the invention. The assigned examiner is Jimmi Ray Dumbass who graduated from the Joel Osteen Bible College with a degree in Christian thought.
Do you think it’s fair to say the civil service issue is much more salient and motivating on right (deep state, unitary executive), even if public broadly supports civil service? Have heard nothing public from Biden Admin on their laudable efforts to preempt schedule F.
