The next deep-sea mining meeting is happening in 2 weeks in Jamaica. So, just to pre-empt the almost certain dominant line we'll hear from the mining companies: There is absolutely no serious projection for deep-sea mining that contributes meaningfully to climate mitigation before 2050.

Which is not to say that deep-sea mining couldn't contribute to climate change mitigation in the future. It very well could! But it is not a solution to the current climate crisis and it is not an industry that needs to be rushed into production before we know more about its environmental impacts.
