Had a story make it to the final round of consideration and miss the cut — and honestly, that feels almost as good as a sale. It really is appreciated when editors mention that sort of thing.

Right? Some acknowledgement of how far my work has gone through the process is better than a thanks but no thanks. Knowing I just missed out is okay. It's still encouragement.
