Wealth is definitely no proxy for intelligence or wisdom or moral superiority. There's probably a strong association with conceit though, which I hypothesize is a result of spared lessons from failure. I'd like to see some science.

Association between wealth, intelligence, wisdom and moral superiority exists because the rich tend to be ones in charge. They disproportionately influence public, educational, religious and social policy in general. To justify why they have more than they’ll ever consume while others have nothing.
