It moves heat from the Tropics to the Atlantic coastlines. If disrupted, it could mean a major climactic shift up and down both sides of the pond.

The moment I realised was when I realised Montreal was further south than Manchester in the UK. Montreal gets very cold in the winter (it was -15 Celsius at that time) and in Manchester it was 3 degrees Celsius. The current as I understand it blows warm air up into Europe that keeps it warmer
