I'm honestly not sure of the best way to word this. My solution is to say something like [begin added highlight] at the beginning of a highlighted section and [end added highlight] at the end of a highlighted section.

To make it match how screen reader text is done for stuff like shortcodes, etc. in complex UIs, I say "start highlight" and "end highlight." That matches several other formats, including how you speak with voice access/dictation.
