Hi! So I'm L, I do a lot in SFF and one of those things I do is run the Ignyte Awards. We're a spec lit award centering the perspectives/contributions of BIPOC in genre. We came about because existing legacy institutions sustain(ed) practices disrespectful or exclusionary of marginalized creators.
If you remember GRRM's most recent disaster hosting of the Hugo Awards in a virtual year, FIYAH, a 5(6?)x Hugo nominee for Best Semiprozine, was mispronounced alongside many other ethnic names on the ballot. That's where we came from. Hello.
Really looking forward to finding more diverse options in the sff sphere. It’s tough when so much good stuff is only spread word of mouth because big publishers don’t give these authors anything when it comes to advertising.
I've been waiting till you open up for the 2024 submissions (published late 2023). Definitely one of the awards that's been on my watch list, so thanks for doing what you do!
