I like the monster designs, esp the Gill-Man, but the kids are poorly written/acted, which weighs the good stuff down so it never really takes off. It's like if Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein was The Ritz Brothers Meet Frankenstein. There's no center, and the monsters are blanks as characters.

I actually love the movie, but as the years go on I do notice there are a lot of holes in it. I do believe there was a bit cut out in order to hit that dream 1:30 mark. It'd be interesting to see what a complete cut would bring to the table; better or worse.
