Not only that, but precisely what would change the outcome? It’s written that we will not know when, that He will come “as a thief in the night.” Why do people insist on worrying about that which they cannot change? As if their actions would change God’s mind?

Exactly! We're not supposed to know because we're to always live as if he's coming in five minutes. Once I ripped all that out of my faith, I became a lot happier. It breeds fear and anxiety, which is the opposite of what the Holy Spirit gives us.
