I think a *significant* part of that is that the Scottish parliament doesn't use FPTP. (I'm not a massive fan of the list system and would rather have proper PR, but it's definitely a step forward).

Was the general tone of SNP era that the people were generally happy with them? I'm not knowledgeable enough about the details of their run, but whenever they were on national news I found myself broadly agreeing with them.
