I figured it out: vote shaming by vote blue no matter who folks is a threat. Since they already show through their in/action that they prefer the status quo to material change, the subtext is "if things get worse for me, I'll join the other side for my safety & you don't want that." Prove me wrong.

As has been said before, under even overt fascism many or most of the citizens of the country doing the worst harm get to buy their bread & watch their movies and otherwise ignore the horror their country is causing. These people know this, at least deep down, when they demand you vote "lesser evil"
