I think about that with my parents too. They were very young during WWI and the 1918 pandemic, married in '35 and started having babies. I can't imagine their anxiety. Dad entered the Navy in '44 and was sent to the S. Pacific -- my mom never knew where he actually was. 1/

2/ After the war, it was STILL hard to find work b/c so many guys came back in a short time. But they persevered. They bought a house with the GI Bill, encouraged their kids to go to college. I continue to be in awe of their determination. None of it could have been easy.
